Why a photographed signature gets refused
You sign on white paper, photograph it, and the portal rejects it. The reason is almost never the signature — it's the paper. A phone camera turns white paper grey or yellow, and adds a shadow down one side. This lifts the ink off the page and puts it back on a genuinely clean background, which is what the form is actually checking for.

Push the slider to the right. It's deciding what counts as ink versus paper, and a light pen or a faded pencil stroke sits close to the line. If that isn't enough, re-photograph it in better, even light — near a window works well — with no shadow across the page.
Should I choose white or transparent?
White, for almost every form — portals expect a normal JPEG on a plain background and some reject PNGs outright. Transparent is for when you're placing the signature on top of a document, for instance in the Sign PDF tool.
Can I use this on a coloured or lined sheet?
It'll do its best, but lined paper is genuinely hard — the rules are ink too. Plain white paper takes thirty seconds to find and gives a far better result than any amount of processing afterwards.
