What this does, and what it doesn't
An e-Aadhaar downloaded from UIDAI opens only with a password, which is a sensible thing for UIDAI to do and an annoying thing when you need to attach it to a form or hand it to a printer. Type the password yourself here and you get an ordinary, unlocked copy back.
This does not crack, guess or recover a password. You must know it and enter it. If you don't, the only place to get another copy is UIDAI's own site.
Nothing here reaches us — not even the password
The PDF is opened and re-saved by your own browser. The file, the password you type, and every digit on the document stay on your device for the whole process. We don't see them, don't store them, and couldn't produce them if anyone asked. This tool doesn't read your Aadhaar number, and it doesn't check your Aadhaar against anything.

UIDAI's e-Aadhaar password is the first four letters of your name in CAPITALS followed by
your year of birth — for example, a Ramesh born in 1992 would have
RAME1992. Type it here; it is never sent anywhere.
Common questions
Is the unlocked copy identical to the original?
It looks identical and prints identically, but it isn't byte-for-byte the same file: each page is re-rendered at high resolution and rebuilt into a new PDF without the password. The practical difference is that text in it is no longer selectable — it's a picture of the page. For attaching to a form, printing, or emailing to an office, that's exactly what people want. If you need the original's selectable text, keep the original.
I've forgotten the password.
Then this tool can't help you, by design. Download a fresh copy from UIDAI's own portal — the password follows the same rule and is set from your own name and birth year.
Is my e-Aadhaar really not uploaded?
It is not. Your PDF and your password are read and unlocked by your own browser, on your own device. There is no upload step in this tool — not one that we choose not to use, but none at all. The single small request made at the end simply records that the tool was used, and for this tool it deliberately carries no filename either, because an e-Aadhaar's filename usually contains the holder's own name.
Should I remove the password at all?
Think about where the copy is going. The password is there to protect a document full of your personal details, so an unlocked copy deserves the same care you'd give a photocopy of your card. If you're sharing it with anyone, consider masking the number first.
